  • How thick is the glass is a wardrobe door?

Generally glass in a wardrobe door is tempered glass, between 5mm and 10mm thick. Tempered glass is toughened by thermal or chemical treatment, causing compression to the surface of the glass and tension to the interior of the glass. If the glass breaks, rather than splintering into sharp, jagged shards, the glass crumbles into small granular chunks thanks to these forces of compression and tension. This makes tempered glass a much safer option for glass in a door.

  • I’m sick of the sliding door on my wardrobe getting stuck. What can I do?

Sliding door tracks need to be clean to provide smooth travel. Silicone lubricant—such as WD40 Specialist and Selleys Ezy Glide—are highly recommended to reduce snags, as well as squeaks. You would also need to clear any obstacles to the path of the doors—these might include bags, belt, clothing that has fallen down, etc.

A final resort would be to change out the doors altogether and install hinged doors. Hinged doors can also accommodate mirrors. Many hinged door designs have the mirror affixed to the inside of the door. But the big disclaimer here is that you would need enough free space in your room to allow the hinged doors to swing open.

  • I need loads of wardrobe space. Is it better to have sliding doors or hinged wardrobe doors?

Hinged doors would require you to have unobstructed space for the doors to swing open. If your wardrobe were to span the length of your wall, it’s unlikely that hinged doors would open free of obstruction, unless it’s a very big room. Sliding wardrobe doors, on the other hand, could stack behind one another on triple tracks that allow for multiple doors to open at the same time. With the sliding doors all contained within the space of the wardrobe, no extra space in the room is needed for them to open out.
